Got that “Travel Bug”?

For some of us, the ins and outs of daily life can seem so repetitive.  Wake up, work work work, wash the dishes, wrestle the kids and wiped out at the end of the day.  Then rinse and repeat it all again.  For me, my bit of relaxation has always been in planning our next big trip, even if its a year away.  I’ll start looking at the time of year we are planning and seeing what interesting things might be happening locally during that time.  Last summer I found one of the oldest Medieval Festivals was in route of our road trip through England and Wales.   My husband and I love Renaissance fairs so I figured it must be similar.   I was wrong, in a good way!  The festival had over 3000 properly armed and time-appropriately attired to re-enact the last battle of the War of the Roses – on the same battle field where it had taken place.  It was one weekend only.  So that became the centerpiece of our road trip and I worked backwards, weaving us through Stonehenge, the castle where the film Downton Abby (Highclere) and up to Wrexham where Ryan Reynolds has his football (soccer) team.  Tossed in some castle hunting of course and few cute B&Bs and our trip was planned.

It’s not often that I’m more than a month or two away from going somewhere for something.  I’ve been a nail tech for 23 years and for most of my career I’ve purposely kept a section of each month for travel.   For many years it was because I was often working trade shows or in the competition circuit and I would be popping around the country from convention center to convention center.   I’ve been leery to build my books so full that I can’t get everyone in during a 3 week span – even if those weeks are really tight with late nights.  The last thing I want is mad clients who can’t get in!  An appointment book that’s too full means someone might not be taken care of while I’m away somewhere.   But that travel bug follows me everywhere and my clients are often the first to hear about my planned escapades and bug me about keeping up with photos while I’m gone.

Often I’m up into the wee hours checking booking windows for important things like using miles to book flights or when to book a show that always sells out quickly.  That travel bug seems to be a little more long lasting with me and it always gives me something to look forward to.  Sure it can be daunting, having 30 browser tabs open to museums and google maps and different places to stay.  But those tabs stay open until I’ve made a decision and the item goes on my itinerary.  When that trip is done, there isn’t much time gone before I’m thinking about where and when the next one will be to start the cycle over again.  Now I get to think of my trips as research so if you ever have a travel bug, I can plan the perfect trip for you. I hope that is why you found me!  You are interested in an epic trip that you don’t want to have to plan!  My goal is to pop some more blogs up that talk a lot about all these little aspects of travel along with personal favorites and stunning spots.
